Daniel Bugri Naabu, the paramount chief of Namong in Ghana’s North East Region and former NPP Northern regional Chairman, has openly confirmed issuing warnings to delegates not to support Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the upcoming NPP presidential primaries.
This admission came to light in a leaked phone call conversation believed to be between Bugri Naabu and an unidentified male, where the chief acknowledged contacting delegates across the North East and parts of the Northern Regions.
He specifically warned them against campaigning for any candidate from the southern part of the country, mentioning the name of Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The male voice on the other end responded, identifying “Kyebi” in the Eastern Region as the source of the information.
Bugri Naabu asked further about what exactly Kennedy Agyapong had said. The other person explained that Agyapong alleged some chiefs were discouraging delegates from voting for him.
The chief then confirmed emphatically that he indeed warned delegates to support his preferred candidate, who he referred to as “my brother.”
“Yeah I warned them,” he firmly stated.
When asked whether Kennedy Agyapong had personally called him, Bugri Naabu clarified that it was Adam Zoya who contacted him, stating an intent to bring Kennedy to the chief’s office.
Bugri Naabu clarified “No, no, it was Adam Zoya,” adding “He said he wanted to bring Ken to my office, and I asked him for what. He said Ken used to be my brother. I said yes. Then he said they heard that I was advising people not to vote for him. I said yes, I asked them to vote for my brother,” he explained what transpired between himself and Adam Zoya.
Bugri Naabu admitted he was campaigning for himself and supporting his brother, who is believed to be former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, distancing his campaign efforts from anyone else.
“I asked them to vote for my brother. I’m doing it, I’m campaigning for myself , not for anyone else,” Bugri Naabu stressed.
