The Minority in Parliament has criticised the joint show of force by the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service, describing it as a misplaced priority and a waste of state resources.
The two security agencies on Thursday, December 11, 2025, staged a public display of arms and tactical equipment in Accra to demonstrate their readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the Christmas festivities.
However, addressing journalists, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, argued that the exercise failed to address Ghana’s pressing security challenges.
According to him, such a display would have been more appropriate in security flashpoints such as Bawku, Gbinyiri, and areas affected by illegal mining, where residents continue to experience violence and insecurity.
Rev. Fordjour said deploying security personnel and equipment to these areas would have reassured citizens of the state’s commitment to restoring peace and effectively tackling illegal mining activities, rather than staging what he described as a symbolic exercise in the capital.
He urged the government and security agencies to prioritise intelligence-led operations and sustained presence in troubled areas to enhance public safety nationwide.
