The Accra Regional Police Command has announced it will enforce a High Court order prohibiting the planned “Stop Galamsey” demonstration scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2026.
In a press release dated February 26, 2026, and signed by Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Command stated that the High Court in Accra on February 24 granted an order restraining the conveners from proceeding with the protest.
According to the police, the court order was issued in the interest of public order and safety, as the planned demonstration coincides with the State of the Nation Address.
The Command also addressed claims circulating on the organisers’ social media platforms suggesting that no court process had been served on them. Police clarified that the order had been duly served in accordance with due process.
“The Accra Regional Police Command will enforce the High Court Order in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
However, the police indicated their willingness to engage the conveners to agree on a mutually convenient date for the demonstration, in line with the Public Order Act and the court’s directive.
The Command urged the public to comply with the order and refrain from actions that could lead to a breach of the peace.
Police further assured stakeholders of their commitment to upholding constitutional rights while maintaining public safety and law and order.
