The Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commended the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for what he described as significant progress in reducing violent crime, particularly armed robbery.
The minister made the remarks during the CID WASSA 2025 celebration held at the department’s headquarters in Accra.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak highlighted a 5.1 per cent reduction in armed robbery cases, noting that 1,142 incidents were recorded during the period under review compared with the previous year.
He also pointed to a sharper decline in highway robbery, which dropped from 312 cases to 228, attributing the improvement to targeted security operations along major transport routes.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the CID through ongoing modernisation efforts.
He said these include upgrades to the fingerprint identification system and increased investment in artificial intelligence to support criminal intelligence gathering and combat sophisticated cybercrime.

He expressed confidence that the department would achieve even greater results in the coming year and urged officers to remain disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.
The Director-General of the CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and personnel of the department for their dedication over the past year.

She described the WASSA celebration as an opportunity to reflect on achievements while strengthening unity and purpose within the department.
