The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced revised guidelines governing its internal elections, aimed at addressing challenges encountered during ongoing registration and electoral processes.
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), acting on behalf of the National Council, approved the updated guidelines at an emergency meeting held at its headquarters in Accra.
According to the statement, the revisions are intended to strengthen internal democracy, enhance transparency, and ensure a more credible and inclusive electoral process across all levels of the party.
Among the key changes is the introduction of flexible voting arrangements for chapter-level elections, which will now be conducted either in person or through an official electronic voting platform.
The guidelines also outline provisions for the suspension of elections in disputed polling stations.
In such cases, polling station election committees are required to halt the process and refer the matter to the appropriate regional authorities for resolution.
Additionally, each polling station elections committee will oversee up to 25 polling station executive elections.
The revised rules further specify eligibility criteria, stating that only members who have been active in the party for at least two years will be permitted to vote or contest in chapter executive elections.
The party also detailed the positions to be contested at the chapter level, which mirror those at the constituency level. These include chairperson, vice-chairpersons, secretary, organiser, treasurer, and other key roles.
Provision has also been made for appointed positions, including research officers, electoral affairs officers, and various deputy roles to support party administration at the chapter and branch levels.
In a related development, the NEC has constituted an ad hoc committee to develop a comprehensive manual outlining the roles and responsibilities of party officers nationwide.
The committee is chaired by Peter Mac Manu, with other members drawn from the party’s leadership.
The statement, signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, urged party members and stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the revised guidelines and adhere strictly to them.
The party leadership reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with members to uphold its values and ensure smooth internal electoral processes.
