Social commentator Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor has alleged that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is currently in the custody of United States authorities under strict conditions, following what he describes as a bond arrangement on health grounds.
In a post shared online, Barker-Vormawor claimed that, based on information from contacts within the U.S. Department of Justice, Mr. Ofori-Atta was granted release on a $65,000 bond but is being treated as a flight risk.
He further alleged that the former minister has been fitted with an electronic ankle monitor, restricting his movement within a defined area, and is required to report regularly to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to the post, Mr. Ofori-Atta is expected to appear before an immigration court on April 27.
Barker-Vormawor also questioned the delay in Ghana’s reported extradition request, claiming that U.S. authorities have had the request for approximately three months, with all necessary documentation reportedly provided by Ghana’s Attorney General’s Department.
He suggested that the delay may be linked to the U.S. State Department and called on Ghana’s Foreign Minister to seek clarification.
There has been no official confirmation from U.S. authorities or the Government of Ghana regarding these claims.
