The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has held discussions with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), H.E. Niloy Banerjee, on strengthening collaboration to promote peace, security, and national development in Ghana.
According to a statement shared by the Minister on Facebook, the meeting focused on Ghana’s efforts towards maintaining peace and security, as well as key reforms being undertaken by the Ministry of the Interior.
During the engagement, the UNDP delegation commended Ghana for its strong peace architecture and the various policies and initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and stability in the country.
The delegation noted that Ghana’s approach to peacebuilding continues to serve as a model within the sub-region and beyond.
H.E. Niloy Banerjee also expressed enthusiasm about the Peace Index and Peace Map initiatives, describing them as innovative tools capable of significantly strengthening conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts.
The delegation further praised the Ministry’s vision for the security sector and reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to supporting programmes that advance peace, security, and national development.

The Interior Minister, in turn, stressed the importance of coordination and collaboration between the Ministry and development partners such as the UNDP.
He briefed the delegation on several reforms and initiatives currently being pursued by the Ministry, including ongoing digitalisation efforts, the proposed Community Service Bill aimed at easing congestion in the country’s prisons, and the proposed Parole Bill.
Mr Mubarak also highlighted the significance of the Peace Map and Peace Index initiatives in strengthening Ghana’s national peace and security mechanisms and called for continued support from the UNDP to help advance the Ministry’s objectives.
He expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and conveyed optimism about deepening cooperation between the Ministry and the UNDP in areas of mutual interest.
