The Government of Ghana has maintained the producer price of cocoa for the 2026 Light Crop Season despite a decline in global cocoa prices.
The decision, announced through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), means cocoa farmers will continue to receive GH¢1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms for Grade I and II cocoa beans and GH¢2,587.00 per bag of 64 kilograms gross.
A tonne of cocoa, equivalent to 16 bags, will also continue to attract a producer price of GH¢41,392.00.
According to a circular signed by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Agronomy and Quality Control at COCOBOD, Dr. Francis Baah, purchases for the 2026 Light Crop Season will officially begin on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The government said the decision to maintain the producer price is aimed at protecting the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers amid fluctuations in international cocoa prices.
By keeping the current price unchanged, authorities believe farmers will have greater confidence and stability as the new crop season begins.
COCOBOD has communicated the decision to key stakeholders in the cocoa sector, including Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), management of COCOBOD, relevant ministries, and other industry players to ensure a smooth start to cocoa purchases nationwide.
The announcement comes at a time when global cocoa prices have experienced a downward trend, creating concerns over the potential impact on cocoa-producing countries and farmers.
