Aspiring First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Akwasi Nti Asamoa, has pledged that a new regional party office will be initiated within 100 days if he and chairman hopeful Odeneho Kwaku Appiah are elected in the party’s upcoming regional executive elections.
Speaking in an interview on Abusua FM with host Osempani as part of his campaign, Mr. Asamoa said the proposed regional office would be a key priority under their leadership.
“If delegates elect me as First Vice Chairman and Odeneho Kwaku Appiah as Regional Chairman, we will cut sod for the construction of the party’s regional office within our first 100 days in office,” he said.
Mr. Asamoa said the time had come for a new generation of leaders to take over the affairs of the party in the Ashanti Region, arguing that the current regional executives had made their contribution.
“I cannot continue to blame the current regional executives. They have done their part. The time has come for us to lead the region with new energy,” he stated.
Highlighting Mr. Appiah’s credentials, Mr. Asamoa described him as a grassroots politician with extensive experience in party organization and leadership.
According to him, Mr. Appiah began his political career as an Assembly Member in Asante Bekwai and later served five terms as Constituency Chairman for Afigya Kwabre South before becoming a regional executive member.
“He has the grassroots experience needed to lead and manage the party in the Ashanti Region,” Mr. Asamoa said.
On party unity, the vice chairmanship hopeful said Mr. Appiah’s measured approach toward members associated with the “Base” and “UP” factions was part of a broader strategy to reunite the party.
He argued that reconciliation, rather than confrontation, was necessary to bring estranged members back into the NPP.
“You cannot attack people who have left the party and expect to convince them to return. We need a strategy that promotes unity,” he said.
Mr. Asamoa appealed to delegates to support his bid and that of Mr. Appiah, saying their election would mark a new chapter for the party in the region.
He also expressed confidence in his own chances, claiming to have secured strong backing from delegates in the Fomena Constituency and the six constituencies within the Adansi area.
“I am confident of victory because of the support we are receiving from delegates across the region,” he said.
Mr. Asamoa further urged delegates to vote against Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who is contesting Odeneho Kwaku Appiah for the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman.
The New Patriotic Party is expected to hold its regional executive elections as part of efforts to elect new leaders to steer the party’s affairs ahead of the 2028 general elections.
