The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has raised concern over persistent road traffic incidents in the region despite a marginal decline in reported cases.
According to the minister, a report from the Regional Road Safety Department indicates that while road crashes, including pedestrian knockdowns, have reduced slightly from last year’s figure of 626 cases, the numbers remain high and unacceptable.
Dr Amoakohene described the situation as worrying and called for immediate and coordinated interventions to address the trend.
“This situation demands urgent and coordinated action,” he said, noting that discussions are underway to strengthen enforcement of speed limits and improve pedestrian safety.
He added that authorities are also considering the expansion of speed ramp installations in high-risk areas as part of measures to reduce accidents.
The minister further emphasised the role of collective responsibility in improving road safety, urging motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Drivers must exercise caution, respect speed limits, and prioritise human life,” he stated.
Dr Amoakohene stressed the need for decisive action to ensure safer roads across the Ashanti Region, calling on all stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to curb accidents.
