The Government of Ghana has granted indefinite residence permits to approximately 500 Ivorian refugees residing in the country, reaffirming its commitment to refugee protection and regional solidarity.
The official handover ceremony was held yesterday and led by the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Mubarack Mohammed.
The event was attended by the Ivorian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Assiélou Félix Tanon, as well as representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Ghana Refugee Board, and the Ghana Immigration Service.
Describing the occasion as a milestone in the lives of the beneficiaries, the Interior Minister noted that the residence permits are part of Ghana’s ongoing efforts to support displaced persons and integrate them into society.
However, he reminded the recipients that the permits are revocable and urged them to remain law-abiding while residing in the country.

“This gesture reflects Ghana’s strong commitment to protecting and supporting refugees and asylum seekers,” said Alhaji Mohammed.
Ambassador Assiélou Félix Tanon expressed profound appreciation to the Government and people of Ghana for their continued hospitality and support for Ivorian nationals over the years.

He highlighted the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, thanking Ghana for offering a safe haven during difficult times.
Ghana, known for its long-standing tradition of peace and hospitality, continues to uphold values of compassion, inclusion, and respect for human dignity, particularly in its approach to managing refugee affairs.
The ceremony marks a hopeful new chapter for the Ivorian beneficiaries, many of whom have lived in Ghana since fleeing political instability in Côte d’Ivoire over a decade ago.Source: www.kumasimail.com
