Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has called on Christian clerics to play a pivotal role in promoting peace and security in Ghana.
In a recent engagement held in Accra, the minister emphasized the urgent need for a collective approach to address the rising threats of chieftaincy disputes, vigilantism, and land guard activities, which continue to undermine national stability.

Citing the existence of eleven curfews across the country as of February 2025, Minister Mubarak underscored the growing security concerns and the necessity for proactive interventions.
He outlined a three-pronged strategy aimed at fostering long-term peace and social cohesion:
- Community-Based Initiatives – Encouraging active citizen participation in conflict resolution and reconciliation efforts.
- Collaborative Programs – Addressing root causes of conflicts such as poverty and unemployment, which often drive individuals toward violence.
- Strengthened Security Measures – Enhancing collective responses to emerging security threats to ensure national stability.

During the discussions, the minister also highlighted the escalating issue of drug abuse among Ghanaian youth, describing it as a significant threat to societal well-being.
He urged religious leaders to support government efforts by educating communities on the dangers of substance abuse while promoting peace and social cohesion.

“We recognize the moral authority of our religious leaders and their ability to influence positive change. Their role in fostering unity and guiding the youth away from destructive behaviors is crucial for the future of Ghana,” Minister Mubarak stated.
He further assured the clerics of the government’s commitment to supporting their peacebuilding initiatives, including providing security agencies with the necessary resources to ensure effective law enforcement.

The engagement received commendations from key religious organizations, including the Christian Council of Ghana and other prominent church bodies, who lauded the initiative as a critical step toward strengthening peace and security within the country.
This meeting forms part of ongoing national efforts to address security challenges and reinforce Ghana’s commitment to social harmony and development.
