The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced that it will continue its demolition exercise at the Asafo Interchange and adjoining enclave on Friday, July 17, 2026, as part of efforts to restore order and improve public safety within the metropolis.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, the Assembly said the exercise will target all unauthorized structures and occupants beneath the Asafo Interchange, as well as areas behind COCOBOD and the Takoradi Flour Mill enclave.
According to the KMA, the demolition forms part of its ongoing campaign to reclaim public spaces from unauthorized occupation and criminal activities, while ensuring a safer environment for residents and commuters.
The Assembly recalled that during a recent inspection and enforcement operation at the site, officials of the KMA, City Guards, and security personnel were attacked while carrying out their lawful duties.
It condemned the incident and stressed that such attacks would not deter the Assembly from enforcing the law and carrying out its mandate to protect public safety.
The KMA further directed all persons who have erected temporary or unauthorized structures within the affected areas to remove them before the scheduled demolition to avoid the loss of property.
The Assembly appealed to the public to cooperate with officials during the exercise, emphasizing that the operation is intended to promote orderliness, enhance sanitation, and improve security within the city.
The demolition exercise is expected to commence on Friday, July 17, 2026.
