New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for Nandom, Lawyer Sylvester Isang, says the constituency needs strong political representation and the political will to secure its fair share of national development.
Mr Isang said Nandom risked lagging behind other parts of the country if its representative in Parliament was unable to make a strong case for the constituency and mobilise the necessary support for development.
He made the remarks on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when he formally declared his intention to contest the NPP’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to him, politics has increasingly become a determining factor in how development resources are secured and distributed, making effective political representation critical to Nandom’s progress.
“Our society is such that politics appears to determine everything for us now in our society,” he said.
“Hence at every material time, we Nandome need to be heard on the political space of Ghana.”
Mr Isang argued that without a representative capable of making a strong case for Nandom, the constituency could continue to lose out while other parts of the country secured resources meant to address their development needs.
“If we don’t have a representative who can make a strong case for our fair share of the national cake for our people, then our community will languish in abject poverty whilst other parts of the country take their share of the national cake and that of Nandom as well,” he said.

He said his decision to seek the NPP nomination was therefore motivated by what he described as a desire to secure the collective development interests of Nandom rather than personal political ambition.
Mr Isang also cited the social and professional networks he has built over the years as an advantage that could help him lobby for the constituency across political and institutional lines.
“Over the years I have built a very strong social capital and networking across both political divide and the NGO world, and I believe I can make a strong case for Nandom at all levels and across the political divide,” he said.
The lawyer said he had also experienced many of the socioeconomic difficulties confronting ordinary Nandome, giving him an appreciation of the constituency’s challenges and what he described as some of their possible solutions.
“I appreciate the endemic problems of Nandom and having battled some of those challenges I can say without hesitation that I have solutions to some of the developmental challenges of Nandom,” he said.
Mr Isang said he was offering himself for public service because of his “love for Nandom” and the need to secure “the needed joint efforts and in particular the political will” to champion the constituency’s development.
His declaration comes as the Nandom NPP seeks to rebuild after losing the parliamentary seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections.
Former Nandom MP Ambrose Dery has announced his intention to seek the NPP nomination again, while Alois Mohl and Martin K. Delle are also expected to contest.
