New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on all members of the party to unite and work together towards securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
He said the party could only achieve its electoral objective if it harnessed the talents and experience of all its members, including those who contested and lost in the recently concluded regional executive elections.
Dr. Bawumia made the call on Sunday, August 16, when the newly elected Greater Accra Regional executives of the NPP, led by the Regional Chairman, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, paid a courtesy call on him at his office.
Congratulating the newly elected executives, Dr. Bawumia described the regional and constituency elections as an important step in the party’s reorganisation ahead of the 2028 elections.
“This is a great day to have all the elected regional executives and constituency executives here, led by Dr. Okoe Boye. Let me congratulate you all and the constituency executives. You have all fought a solid battle,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia commended Dr. Okoe Boye, whom he described as a close friend, for his leadership qualities and expressed confidence that the new regional leadership would help the party increase its parliamentary representation in the Greater Accra Region.
“I know Dr. Okoe Boye very well. We are very good friends. He is a good man, a unifier and very humble. I believe he is going to bring us a lot of seats in Greater Accra,” he said.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the party’s immediate objective must be to consolidate the gains made through its internal reorganisation and prepare adequately for the 2028 general elections.
“Our goal for all of us is to win the 2028 elections. This is just a stepping stone towards winning the 2028 elections. As a party, we are engaging in a reorganisation exercise. We are done with our polling station elections, electoral area, constituency and regional executive elections, with the October 3 national elections left,” he said.
He said the completion of the reorganisation exercise would position the NPP to build the organisational structure needed to reclaim political power.
“Therefore, the party will be in a good position to have that vehicle that will drive us to victory in the 2028 elections. So, there is a lot of work ahead of us, and we are going to do that work in unity. If we are united, we will win the 2028 elections,” Dr. Bawumia said.
He urged those who competed in the internal elections to put the contest behind them and work together for the collective interest of the party.
“This election is over. Competitors, let us come together,” he appealed.
Harness talents
Dr. Bawumia further urged the newly elected executives to make effective use of the talents and capabilities of every member of the party, stressing that no individual should be left out of the party’s campaign efforts.
“If we keep our talent at home, it doesn’t help the campaign. I want to use everybody’s talent to get victory, and I want to emphasise that I am open to working with everybody in the party,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to party members for their support and confidence in him, joking that his name had been used extensively during the internal elections and would continue to be relevant as the party prepares for its national-level activities.
Dr. Bawumia urged the elected executives and supporters to remain committed to the party’s agenda and work collectively to regain power in 2028.
“We are all really going to do the party’s bidding. We have elected you all here to win power, and we are really going to commit ourselves to doing exactly that,” he assured the Greater Accra Regional executives.
