President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu as Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), reinforcing efforts to stabilize the nation’s financial sector amid ongoing economic challenges.
The appointment, made under Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act (Act 612), fills a critical vacancy following the early retirement of Elsie Addo Awadzi in February 2025.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President, confirmed the appointment, emphasizing Mrs. Asante-Asiedu’s alignment with the BoG’s Fit and Proper Directive, which prioritizes professional competence and financial integrity.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu brings over two decades of expertise to the role, most recently as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, where she spearheaded growth in retail financial services.
Her credentials include a Chartered Executive Banker certification (CIB-Ghana, 2024), an MBA in Marketing from GIMPA Business School (2021), and an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University.
Her professional development spans elite institutions; executive programs at Oxford’s Said Business School (2023), Wharton School (2015), and Marquette University’s Les Aspin Centre (2003).
She joins Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama and First Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni at a pivotal moment, as the BoG tackles inflation, currency volatility, and financial sector reforms.
