A former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) under the Akufo-Addo administration has endorsed Henry Kwabena Kokofu for the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a Facebook post, the former NEIP boss described Dr. Kokofu as a seasoned party figure with extensive experience in both regional and national party structures, arguing that the Ashanti Region requires leadership from someone who understands the internal workings of the party.
According to the post, Dr. Kokofu has played several strategic roles within the NPP over the years, including serving as a member of the party’s National Communication Committee since 2019 and the National Communication Team since 2013.
The endorsement also highlighted his tenure as Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency from 2013 to 2017, during which he served on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Forestry as well as the Standing Orders Committee of the Sixth Parliament.
The former NEIP CEO further pointed to Dr. Kokofu’s contribution to the party’s policy development and transition process, noting that he served as a member of the NPP Government Transition Team on Lands and Natural Resources between 2016 and 2017.
He also worked as Member and Secretary of the NPP’s 2016 Manifesto Sub-Committee on Lands and Natural Resources.
At the regional level, Dr. Kokofu previously served as Chairman of the NPP Bantama Constituency and chaired the Finance Committee of the NPP in the Ashanti Region.
His local government experience includes serving as Chairman of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) between 2003 and 2006, as well as holding positions as an Assembly Member and polling station chairman.
The endorsement comes at a time when discussions over the future leadership of the NPP in the Ashanti Region continue to intensify ahead of internal party elections.
The Ashanti Region remains a stronghold of the NPP and is considered crucial to the party’s electoral fortunes in national elections.
