The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has recovered cash and personal valuables worth thousands of cedis and dollars following a road crash at Suhum Niifio on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in Eastern region.
The Suhum Municipal Fire Station retrieved GH¢50,000 and US$5,231.81, alongside mobile phones, power banks, National Identification cards and other personal belongings from the scene of the accident on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
According to a statement issued by GNFS, a six-member rescue crew led by STNO II Darkwah Prince arrived at the scene at about 20:03 hours and found a Ford F-150, with registration number DV B9981, and a Kia Rio, registered AS 5401-12, involved in the crash.
One male occupant was trapped inside the Kia Rio and was successfully extricated by the firefighters using specialised rescue equipment. He was subsequently transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.
According to preliminary information from the GNFS, the Ford F-150 was overtaking when it collided with the rear of the Kia Rio.
The collision caused extensive damage to the Ford F-150 and partial damage to the Kia Rio.
The GNFS said no death was recorded in the incident.
The Service attributed the crash to wrongful overtaking and urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents.
