Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, popularly known as Professor Kalamonia, has retained the chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region after narrowly defeating his challenger, Dr Clifford Abdallah Braimah, by just four votes.
In one of the closest regional chairmanship contests, Professor Kalamonia polled 92 votes against Dr Braimah’s 88 at the NPP’s regional delegates conference held at the Damongo Community Centre on Saturday.
The result gives Professor Kalamonia another mandate to lead the party in the region as it seeks to rebuild its structures and regain electoral strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.
All the newly elected regional executives were sworn into office immediately after the results were declared.
The keenly contested chairmanship race was the major highlight of the conference, with Dr Braimah, a former Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, mounting a strong challenge to the incumbent.
The narrow margin reflects the intensity of the contest and leaves the new leadership with the immediate task of closing ranks and uniting the party after the election.

The new regional executive is expected to spearhead the NPP’s mobilisation and organisational efforts in the Savannah Region as the party prepares for upcoming internal and national political activities.
For Professor Kalamonia, however, the immediate challenge will be to translate his narrow victory into a united regional party capable of mounting a stronger electoral challenge in 2028.
