A total of 10,833 parcels of narcotic substances have been destroyed at the landfil site in Koforidua, Eastern Regional Capital in accordance with Section 108 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).
The destruction exercise followed orders issued by the Koforidua Circuit Court on May 5, 2026, on separate seized narcotics-related cases.
In one of the cases, involving Ayertey Raphael Wilson and Samuel Tettey, the accused persons were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, namely possession of narcotic drugs for trafficking without lawful authority, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and Section 37(1) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), along with three other related offences.

The accused persons were subsequently convicted following a Plea Bargaining Agreement filed on April 28, 2026.
Pursuant to the court’s order, 150 sacks of narcotic substances were destroyed.
The exhibits consisted of 76 sacks of cannabis seized from a truck with registration number GN 993-14 and 74 sacks of cannabis seized from another truck with registration number GG 3674-20. Each sack contained 70 parcels of narcotic substances, bringing the total number of parcels destroyed in that case to 10,500.

In a separate case involving Innocent Klokofi, an additional 333 parcels of cannabis were destroyed following the same court order dated May 5, 2026.
The destruction exercise was carried out at the Koforidua dumping site in the presence of representatives from the Ghana Police Service, the Narcotics Control Commission, the Attorney-General’s Department, counsel for the accused persons, members of the media, and other stakeholders.
