A group calling itself Patriotic Defenders of NPP Worldwide has petitioned the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to expel former Assin Central Member of Parliament and former presidential aspirant, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, over what it describes as anti-party behaviour.
In a petition dated June 21, 2026, and addressed to the General Secretary of the party, the group accused Mr Agyapong of making remarks that allegedly undermine the image, unity and electoral prospects of the NPP.
The group expressed concern over comments made by Mr Agyapong during an interview on Net 2 TV on Thursday, June 18, 2026, where it said he threatened to disclose sensitive information about the party if provoked.
According to the petitioners, such comments violate Article 3 of the NPP Constitution, which requires members to be truthful and loyal to the party and to protect and promote its good name.
The group argued that as a senior member and former presidential aspirant of the party, Mr Agyapong should have exercised caution in his public statements about the NPP and its previous administrations.
The petitioners accused him of attempting to create division within the party and undermine the achievements of past NPP governments, including the administrations of former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
They further stated that the party has survived the departure, suspension or disagreements involving other influential figures in the past and maintained that expelling Mr Agyapong would not affect the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections.
The group referenced previous political developments involving former party figures, including Joe Appiah, Paul Afoko, Sammy Crabbe, Kwabena Agyepong and Alan Kyerematen, arguing that the party remained resilient despite such challenges.
“History tells us that greater and more formidable figures of our party or the UP tradition left or were suspended, yet their departure couldn’t stop us from winning power,” the petition stated.
The group also called on the party’s leadership, including the General Secretary and other key officials, to act swiftly on their request.
It urged the leadership to prioritise party unity and the NPP’s ambition to return to power in the 2028 elections.
The petition was copied to the NPP flagbearer, former presidents, the National Chairman, the National Council of Elders, the Minority Leader in Parliament and other senior party officials.
The NPP leadership is yet to officially respond to the petition.
