Alhaji Abdul Jalil Ibrahim, popularly known as Director Arisky, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the party’s regional executive elections expected later this year.
His declaration, made on Thursday, July 9, 2026, through a public notice circulated on social media, formally informed delegates, branch executives, constituency executives, party faithful and the general public of his decision to seek the position.
The notice said his vision is anchored on “unity, dedicated service, effective leadership and electoral victory,” with a commitment to building a stronger, more united and vibrant NDC in the Northern Region.
It also urged party members to embrace the contest in the spirit of unity, mutual respect and democratic participation as the internal electoral process progresses.
Alhaji Ibrahim is the son of the late Northern Regional NDC Chairman, Alhaji Abdulai Ibrahim Mobila, who led the party in the region until his death in August 2022. Following his passing, Ali Adolf John was elected to succeed him as regional chairman before later being appointed Northern Regional Minister.
Ali Adolf John is not expected to seek another term following the party’s directive requiring government appointees who hold party executive positions to relinquish one of the two offices.
Alhaji Ibrahim joins a field that includes Issahaku, popularly known as Chairman Gbewaa, and Godfred Apasinaba Wumbei, alias King Yellow, who unsuccessfully challenged Alhaji Mobila for the regional chairmanship in 2018.
His candidature is expected to draw considerable interest within the party. In addition to being the son of the late regional chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim is a close cousin of Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency and one of the NDC’s most influential political figures in the Northern Region. Political observers believe his family background and political connections could make him a formidable contender, although the outcome will ultimately be decided by delegates.

Outside politics, Alhaji Abdul Jalil Ibrahim is the co-founder and Managing Director of Might Ghana Limited, a construction company headquartered in the Greater Accra Region with operations in Tamale. He is also the owner of Magnolia, a leisure and recreational centre in Tamale.
He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), a Master of Business Administration degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
He has also been involved in philanthropic activities across the Northern Region, including sponsoring the tertiary education of a physically challenged student at the University for Development Studies (UDS), donating a motorbike to the student, and supporting the Tamale Children’s Home through community outreach initiatives.
The NDC is expected to announce the date for its regional executive elections in the coming months, with the Northern Regional chairmanship contest already shaping up to be one of the keenly watched internal races in the party.
