Michael Donkor, the District Chief Executive for Amansie Central, is in hot waters after being accused by Assembly members for collecting money without issuing receipts.
This serious allegation was made during a press conference, where assembly members demanded accountability and transparency from the DCE.
This demand is likely driven by members’ desire to see how the revenues collected are being utilized for the benefit of the district.
The press conference was organized by the 28 elected assembly members of the district led by Hon. Stephen Sekyere assembly member for Oseikrom electoral area.
He accused the DCE for illegally forming a new mining taskforce and also imposing someone to be the chairman of the task force without the approval from the general assembly, immediately after the 2024 general election.
He said, ” These people have been moving with official vehicle of the assembly from one mining site to another collecting revenue from miners without issuing receipt to them.
They have also been threatening them with arrest if they refuse to pay. “
He said upon several attempts that have been made to meet the DCE through the presiding member for engagement and clarity, but all have not yielded results.
He said the issue has been reported at the police station for the police to aid them in searching for the whereabouts of both the District Chief Executive and the District Co-ordinating Director.
Finally, he said the unaccounted revenue will have a great impact on the Internal generated fund (IGF) of the assembly and will be very difficult for the assembly to run effectively during the first quarter of 2025, he therefore called on all mining site within the district to refuse payment to unauthorize persons by the assembly.
The assembly members are concerned that the lack of receipts and proper accounting procedures may be indicative of a larger problem, such as misappropriation of funds or corruption.
They are calling on the DCE to provide a clear and detailed account of all monies collected, including those without receipts.
