Carlos Queiroz is expected to remain head coach of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, beyond the expiration of his current contract on July 31, 2026.
The experienced Portuguese coach is reportedly set to sign a new two-year contract that will keep him in charge of the four-time African champions through to 2028.
The contract extension, once finalized, is expected to see Queiroz lead Ghana’s campaign at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where his principal mandate will be to end the country’s long wait for continental glory.
Ghana last won the AFCON title in 1982 and has since fallen short despite reaching the final on several occasions.
Queiroz, who has managed several national teams, including Portugal, Iran, Colombia, Egypt and Qatar, has been credited with bringing experience and tactical discipline to the Black Stars since taking charge.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), sources indicate that negotiations have been concluded and the Portuguese tactician is expected to sign the new deal in the coming days.
The expected extension reflects the GFA’s confidence in Queiroz’s ability to build a competitive team capable of challenging for major honours, with the 2027 AFCON emerging as the immediate priority.
