The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has released a nationwide load management timetable following an estimated 800 megawatt power generation shortfall affecting electricity supply across the country.
The schedule, which outlines planned outages across multiple regions, is aimed at managing the deficit caused by what authorities describe as ongoing generation challenges, particularly linked to constraints at the Akosombo power facility.
According to the timetable, several areas in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Western, Eastern, Central, and Tema regions will experience periodic power interruptions as part of a structured rotation system.
The affected areas have been grouped under designated categories to ensure a fair distribution of the outages.
Power distributors say the load management exercise is necessary to stabilize the national grid and prevent unplanned system collapses.
The planned outages are expected to occur at different intervals, with each group experiencing supply disruptions based on the published timetable.
Energy sector officials attribute the situation to reduced water levels at the Akosombo Dam and other operational challenges impacting generation capacity.
The deficit has made it difficult to meet growing electricity demand, prompting the need for controlled power distribution.
The ECG has urged consumers to take note of the schedule and make the necessary adjustments to minimize inconvenience. It also assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve the generation challenges and restore stable power supply.
The return of load management, commonly referred to as “dumsor,” is likely to raise concerns among businesses and households already grappling with rising economic pressures.
