The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced plans to set up a ministerial committee to review the revocation of the mining lease of Adamus Resources following a petition from the company’s management.
The decision comes days after the minister, acting on the recommendation of the Minerals Commission, revoked Adamus Resources’ lease over allegations of involvement in illegal mining activities.
Speaking to the media after receiving the petition, Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah said the committee would begin work next week Monday and will conduct a comprehensive review of the issues raised.
He explained that the committee would assess the initial recommendations that led to the revocation, examine additional information, and engage directly with Adamus Resources to allow the company to address concerns outlined in its petition.
“Having considered the petition, I have decided to set up a ministerial committee to thoroughly review the matter. The committee will engage Adamus and provide them the opportunity to respond to the concerns raised. They will then submit a comprehensive report and recommendations within two weeks,” the minister stated.
The minister emphasized that the move does not overturn the earlier decision but is intended to ensure due diligence and fairness in the process.
“This is not prejudice to the decision already taken. It is important that I fully verify and investigate all issues raised to arrive at a well-informed conclusion,” he added.
Interim Management to Oversee Operations
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah also disclosed that an interim management team has been established to oversee the operations of the mine while the review process is underway.
According to him, the interim arrangement is aimed at ensuring continuity, protecting jobs, and safeguarding investments.
“The interim management will work closely with the company to ensure orderly operations, protect workers’ job security, and safeguard the interests of investors and creditors,” he said.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to upholding regulatory standards while ensuring fairness and transparency in decision-making.
He also stressed the importance of respecting the role of the Minerals Commission while exercising his constitutional mandate to independently review critical matters.
