The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the successful rescue and repatriation of 28 Ghanaian nationals who were allegedly trapped in a human trafficking network in Côte d’Ivoire.
In a press release issued on May 10, 2026, the ministry said the victims, predominantly young people, were rescued during a coordinated operation involving Ghanaian security operatives and officials from the Embassy of Ghana in Abidjan.
According to the statement, the victims arrived safely in Ghana on Sunday and are currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations into the trafficking network.
The government commended Ivorian authorities for their cooperation and intelligence-sharing, which officials said contributed significantly to the success of the operation.
The ministry cautioned Ghanaians to remain vigilant against fraudulent travel and recruitment schemes that promise overseas job opportunities. It advised the public to verify the legitimacy of recruitment advertisements and travel offers through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, and Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad.
The statement further indicated that the administration of John Dramani Mahama is intensifying efforts to dismantle human trafficking syndicates and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
“The welfare of all Ghanaians remains our utmost priority,” the ministry stated.
Human trafficking remains a major concern across West Africa, with many young people often targeted through false promises of employment and better living conditions abroad.
