President John Dramani Mahama has announced new appointments in the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces, replacing the current service chiefs.
A statement from the Presidency on Monday confirmed that the appointments take effect from March 24, 2025, pending consultation with the Council of State.
The newly appointed acting service chiefs are:
Brigadier General William Agyapong – Acting Chief of the Defence Staff
Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu Acting Chief of Army Staff
Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing Acting Chief of Naval Staff
Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong Acting Chief of Air Staff
Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan Acting Chief of Staff
Earlier in the day, President Mahama met with the outgoing service chiefs, led by General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, at the Flagstaff House.
During the meeting, he expressed gratitude for their dedicated service to the nation and assured them of his commitment to leveraging their expertise in Ghana’s security sector.
The leadership change marks a significant restructuring of the Ghana Armed Forces under President Mahama’s administration.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, signed the official statement.
