Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has emphasized the importance of government officials understanding and adhering to the Code of Conduct established by the John Dramani Mahama administration.
He urged all government officials to study the Code of Conduct with the same dedication and seriousness as they would their Bible, underscoring that ignorance would not be accepted as an excuse for any misconduct.
Speaking at the event, Debrah likened governance to managing a boarding school, where strict rules and checks are essential to maintain order and discipline.
He explained “One aspect of governance is like running a boarding school; there need to be checks and balances, rules, and regulations that tell you not to walk around during prep hours. The same thing applies to what we’re doing here”.
He added “I will encourage each and every one of you, once you get your copy, study it just like your Bible because there shall never be any excuse whatsoever when you cross the line”.
The Chief of Staff shared a cautionary story directed at the appointees. He warned that the only time they would find it difficult to reach the President would be if the government was considering their removal from office.
He remarked “Colleagues, the only time you will not be able to reach the President is when we are about to remove you. I’ve heard some of you say, “Oh, he’s my friend; I go to his house.”
“Trust me, even if you meander your way to reach him through his driver or his ADC, the President will tell you, “As for this Julius, this issue came up.” I told him to wait and look at what he’s done, but he’s already written the letter”.
Debrah stressed that while he hoped no appointee would ever face dismissal, it was crucial to remember that ignorance of the Code would never be a valid defense.
“Please, let us avoid any bad experiences related to removal. But if you play, ignorance is never an excuse,” he said firmly.
The Chief of Staff encouraged all government appointees to perform their duties diligently.
“I wish you all the best. Do your best and let’s make the President look good in the eyes of all Ghanaians,” he said, calling for commitment and responsibility in public service.
