President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s Tema and Takoradi ports will soon operate on a 24-hour basis as part of his administration’s ambitious 24-hour economy initiative under the RESET Agenda.
The move is designed to boost national productivity, enhance trade efficiency, and attract greater investment.
Speaking at the 2025 Horticulture Expo, President Mahama said the transition to round-the-clock operations is being developed in collaboration with key government agencies and industry stakeholders.
“I am pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture Business and Industry, alongside the Ministry of Transport, is working with the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana Shippers’ Council, and other strategic partners to declare the Tema and Takoradi ports as 24-hour operational hubs,” he stated.
President Mahama emphasized that the policy goes beyond merely extending working hours. It involves a comprehensive transformation of infrastructure and systems to support continuous economic activity across sectors.
“This includes improving energy supply, enhancing security, expanding transport networks, and advancing digital platforms to support seamless agricultural and industrial operations,” he explained.
Describing the initiative as “a strategy of hope rooted in efficiency and skill,” Mahama highlighted its potential to position Ghana as a leading trade and logistics hub in West Africa.
The 24-hour economy policy is one of the flagship programmes under the RESET Agenda, aimed at revitalizing key sectors and fostering sustainable national development.
