The Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education has launched a new scholarship scheme dubbed the Charles Agyinasare PhD Scholarship, aimed at supporting Ghanaian scholars pursuing doctoral studies and promoting research focused on national and continental development.
The initiative is intended to reduce financial barriers for PhD candidates while encouraging academic work that addresses key development challenges in Ghana and across Africa. Successful applicants will receive a total annual support package of $5,000, distributed among selected beneficiaries.
The institution said the scholarship targets applicants with demonstrated financial need, strong academic potential, and those who are first-generation PhD students within their families.
A spokesperson for the institution said the programme is inspired by the legacy of Charles Agyinasare, noting his contributions to leadership and intellectual development in Ghana.
“This scholarship is not just about academic advancement; it is about equipping visionary leaders with the tools to create systemic change and develop original theories that respond to the realities of Ghana and Africa,” the spokesperson said.
The institution explained that the programme is designed to promote African-centred research and innovation, encouraging scholars to develop new intellectual frameworks relevant to local and regional development needs.
Unlike conventional doctoral programmes, it said the initiative prioritises research grounded in African contexts, with the aim of producing scholars capable of influencing policy, education, and socio-economic transformation.
The Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education also stated that it is accredited within the European Union and recognised internationally, adding that its graduates receive globally accepted qualifications alongside locally relevant academic training.
Prospective applicants have been encouraged to participate in monthly information sessions scheduled for the first Saturday of every month at 1:30 p.m. Ghana time. Applications for the scholarship officially open on May 1, 2026.
The institution said the scholarship is expected to attract candidates committed to using research to address pressing development challenges across the continent.
