Major infrastructure projects are set to transform the Nandom Municipality as government rolls out key initiatives under its development agenda.
Municipal Chief Executive Anthony Ziniel, in an interview with KumasiMail ahead of his one year anniversary in office, confirmed that Nandom will benefit from the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy through the redevelopment of the old Nandom market into a modern commercial hub.
“We have completed stakeholder engagements with landowners and all key actors and secured agreement on the site. Contract has been signed, and the contractor Astee Limited has been introduced to us and work will begin soon,” he said.
The market, to be sited at the existing old market in the centre of Nandom, is expected to stimulate local commerce and position the municipality as a vibrant trading hub, especially due to its proximity to Burkina Faso.
On road infrastructure, Mr. Ziniel indicated that the Wa-Nandom-Hamile road, initially part of the Big Push programme, has been moved to a second phase after government prioritised the Wa-Sawla stretch, which had earlier been awarded without funding.
He, however, expressed optimism that the project will soon be rolled out, revealing that the Ghana Highways Authority is currently packaging the contract, with interest already shown by contractors.
At the local level, the Assembly is undertaking several projects across communities, including CHPS compounds at Tokuu (roofing stage) and Bapila (lintel level), kindergarten blocks at Betaglo (completed) and Zimuopare (near completion), and a JHS block at Monyupele (lintel level).
In the water sector, the Assembly has drilled 15 boreholes—five mechanised systems in communities such as Tangkyara, Kuselle, Goziir and Bu, alongside 10 hand pump boreholes in communities including Betaglo, Begineteng, Baaperi and Tokuu.
“These projects reflect our commitment to improving living conditions and supporting the President’s reset agenda,” Mr. Ziniel said.
