Education Service urges parents and students to report any unauthorised feeding fee demands
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that no senior high school in the country has been authorised or sanctioned to charge any form of fees from students or parents under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
According to the GES, reports suggesting that some schools have been approved to collect feeding fees or other charges are false and should be disregarded by the public.
In a statement, Management of the GES stressed that any school imposing such charges is acting unlawfully and without approval from the Service.
“Any school found to be charging money under the guise of feeding fees, as alleged, is acting unlawfully and without the approval of Management,” the statement said.
The GES reaffirmed government’s commitment to sustaining and improving the Free SHS policy, noting that the policy remains a key national programme aimed at ensuring access to secondary education for all eligible students.
It warned that any attempt to undermine the policy through misinformation or the clandestine imposition of fees would be treated as an act contrary to national interest.
The Service further advised students and parents who are asked to pay feeding fees or any unauthorised charges to report such incidents to GES authorities for investigation and possible disciplinary action.
The statement comes amid growing public concerns and claims that some schools may be demanding unofficial payments from students despite the implementation of the Free SHS policy.
