The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has called on stakeholders in the creative arts industry, especially Kumawood stars, to set aside their political differences and come together to revitalize the once-thriving local film industry.
Speaking at the Kumasi Movie Night, held as part of the ongoing AshantiFest celebrations, Dr. Amoakohene reiterated the government’s commitment to resourcing and supporting the creative sector in the region.

He urged actors and producers not to allow political affiliations to divide them, cautioning that such divisions risk undermining their livelihoods and the sustainability of the industry.
“After elections, your focus should be on your craft and your business not politics,” Dr. Amoakohene stated during his address.
The Kumasi Movie Night, one of several key events of this year’s Ashanti Festival, was dedicated to honoring fallen legends of the Ghanaian movie industry while fostering unity among Kumawood players.

Other activities featured during the festival included Kumasi Fashion Night, Boxing Night, a Cooking Fair, Cultural Day, and the Lake Bosomtwe Carnival with more to come.
Attendees of the movie night, including producers and key industry stakeholders, expressed appreciation for the minister’s advocacy.
The Kumawood Restoration Working Committee also revealed that their comprehensive proposal to revive the local film industry is nearing completion and will soon be presented to the regional minister for implementation.

The celebrations continued on Friday with the Lake Bosomtwe Carnival, aimed at boosting tourism and creating awareness of the cultural and economic value of the natural lake.

Patrons enjoyed music performances and storytelling sessions centered on the history of the lake.

Dr. Amoakohene used the occasion to announce that plans are well advanced to rehabilitate the road network leading to the lake, an initiative expected to enhance accessibility and promote tourism.

He also disclosed that the Minister for Tourism would soon visit the site to explore potential business and investment opportunities around the lake, as part of broader efforts to promote business tourism in the Ashanti Region.

The AshantiFest is part of the regional administration’s strategy to showcase local talent, boost tourism, and revitalize cultural pride while creating sustainable economic opportunities across the region.
