The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that ongoing upgrade works on key sub-transmission lines in the Greater Kumasi area in the Ashanti region are expected to be completed by June 5, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the power distributor on May 29, 2026, the project involves upgrading existing 265 square millimetre conductors to 400 square millimetre conductors, as well as replacing weak cables to improve electricity transfer capacity and enhance supply reliability.
The upgrade covers transmission lines from the KNUST Primary Substation to the Kaase Primary Substation, and from Kaase to the Ridge Bulk Supply Point in Kumasi.
ECG said the project is aimed at improving voltage quality and strengthening electricity supply to communities including Kaase, Kuntanase, Sewua, Bekwai and nearby areas.
The company further noted that the works will reinforce the sub-transmission link between the Kumasi 1 (K1) and Kumasi 2 (K2) Bulk Supply Points, thereby improving the resilience of the electricity network within the Ashanti Region.
ECG apologised for any inconvenience caused during the execution of the project and assured customers that the temporary challenges are necessary to ensure a more reliable power supply in the region.
The statement was signed by Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager for External Communications at ECG.
