Minister for Youth and Sports, Iddie Kofi Adams, has announced that all revenue Ghana earns from participating in the ongoing FIFA World Cup will be directed into the Ghana Sports Fund (GSF) to support sports development across the country.
The Minister made this disclosure in a response to a Facebook user during an online interaction addressing public concerns about financial proceeds from international football competitions.
The exchange was triggered by a series of questions posed by a user identified as Nana Fredua-Agyeman Ofori-Atta, who sought clarity on how funds from FIFA are allocated.
The questions covered qualification bonuses, match payments, progression rewards, and how such revenues are utilized by participating countries.
In his response, Mr. Adams emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and grassroots sports development, stating that all proceeds from Ghana’s participation in international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, will be paid into the Ghana Sports Fund.
“As a government interested in sports development, especially at the grassroots level, the administration of President John Dramani Mahama has established the Ghana Sports Fund,” he wrote.
He further stressed that the policy ensures that none of the funds will be absorbed into the Consolidated Fund for general government expenditure.
“Not even one cedi will go into the Consolidated Fund. This will allow Ghanaians to directly see how revenue from international sports participation contributes to the development of sports in the country,” the Minister added.
Mr. Adams also referenced the legal framework underpinning the initiative, urging the public to consult Act 1159, which was passed by Parliament and assented to by the President in December 2025.
The Ghana Sports Fund is expected to play a key role in financing sports infrastructure, nurturing talent, and promoting grassroots sports development nationwide.
