Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has assured victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Police Barracks in Accra Central of government’s commitment to supporting their recovery and rebuilding efforts.

The assurance was given during a visit to the affected community, accompanied by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak and other government officials.
In a statement shared on Facebook after the visit, the Interior Minister said he briefed the Vice President on ongoing relief interventions and the condition of residents displaced by the fire.

According to him, the incident affected 48 households, leaving several families without homes and causing extensive damage to property. While some victims are currently staying with relatives and friends, arrangements have been made to provide accommodation and other essential support for those in need.
Addressing affected residents, Professor Opoku-Agyemang conveyed government’s sympathies and solidarity, acknowledging the emotional and economic hardship caused by the disaster, particularly among women and children.

She assured victims that government would continue working with relevant institutions to ensure they receive the necessary assistance throughout the recovery process.
The Vice President also called for a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the fire and stressed the importance of strengthening safety protocols and emergency preparedness measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

She further commended the swift response of emergency services, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), security agencies and other stakeholders whose coordinated efforts helped contain the situation and provide relief to affected families.
The visit forms part of government’s response to the disaster as authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage and implement support measures for victims.
