President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to integrate spiritual resilience with policy initiatives to tackle unemployment, economic instability, and environmental crises.
Speaking at the launch of the Adwumawura Programme in Kumasi, he emphasized that national progress requires a foundation of “faith, morality, and accountability.
Addressing attendees at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, Mahama stated, “Our development as a nation must rest on a foundation of faith, morality, and accountability. If we are to conquer challenges like unemployment, economic hardship, moral decay, and environmental degradation, we must do more than debate and legislate-we must also pray.”
He invoked religious texts, citing Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286 from the Quran, which underscores resilience, and James 1:5 from the Bible, which emphasizes divine wisdom.
He said “The Holy Quran tells us in Surah Al-Baqarah, chapter 2, verse 286, that Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear-a verse that speaks directly to the resilience and strength of the Ghanaian spirit.
“Also, in the Gospel of James, chapter 1, verse 5, the Bible tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach.” Our strength as a people is therefore found not just in our resources, but in our ability to trust in God through every storm and every challenge”
The newly launched Adwumawura initiative aims to create 10,000 youth-led businesses annually, targeting Ghanaians aged 18–35 with skills training, mentorship, and GH₵100 million in seed funding from the 2025 budget.
It prioritizes marginalized groups, including former illegal miners (galamsey workers), people with disabilities, and women in male-dominated sectors.
The programme forms part of the government’s pledge to generate 250,000 jobs yearly through complementary schemes like the National Apprenticeship Programme.
Mahama also called for international partnerships to bolster resources and expertise
With illegal mining exacerbating ecological damage, the initiative seeks to redirect affected youth toward sustainable livelihoods.
