The Combined City Market Traders Union has reiterated its demand for the privatization of the Kumasi City Market management including the Kumasi Kejetia Market, citing ongoing delays and dissatisfaction with current management.
The union is urging authorities to hand over the management of the market to a competent private entity that will prioritize the welfare and security of traders while ensuring efficient operations. It also expressed deep concern over the administration of Phase One of the facility, calling for an immediate change in leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the union, Secretary Emilia Kofie said the current management structure has failed to meet the expectations of traders, leading to persistent operational challenges.
She emphasized that further delays in addressing these concerns could worsen conditions for traders, many of whom depend on the market for their livelihoods.
“We strongly recommend that the management of the market be handed over to a capable private entity to ensure efficiency and safeguard the interests of all traders,” she stated.
The union believes that proper privatization will improve management standards and restore confidence in the running of the market, which remains one of the busiest commercial hubs in the Ashanti Region.
