The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed its planned nationwide demonstration scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2026, citing concerns over the legitimacy of the individual who announced the protest.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said the decision followed internal consultations and a determination that Mr. Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) was not the legitimate organiser of the demonstration.
The party explained that no individual has the authority to commit the NPP to nationwide activities without the appropriate mandate from its recognised decision-making organs.
“The NPP remains a law-abiding institution that upholds internal procedures, due process and the collective decision-making authority of its organs,” the statement said.
It added that the postponement was necessary to ensure that all legal and organisational requirements are met before the protest is held.
According to the party, a new date for the demonstration will be announced after the necessary internal arrangements have been completed.
The NPP urged its members, supporters and the general public to remain calm, united and law-abiding while awaiting further communication from the party.
The statement also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to promoting democratic values, good governance, economic recovery and national development.
The announcement comes a day before the planned demonstration, bringing to a halt preparations for the nationwide protest as the party resolves internal issues surrounding its organisation.
