ACCRA, June 9, 2026 — Convicted former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has been returned to Ghana from the United States to begin serving a prison sentence imposed by the High Court, government officials have announced.
According to a statement issued by the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Tamakloe-Attionu arrived in Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following the successful conclusion of extradition proceedings initiated by the Government of Ghana.
The statement explained that the High Court convicted and sentenced Tamakloe-Attionu in absentia in April 2024. Subsequently, in July 2024, the Government of Ghana formally submitted an extradition request to the United States seeking her surrender to serve her sentence in Ghana.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted that after more than two years of court proceedings in the United States, American authorities notified the Government of Ghana in January this year of their decision to surrender her.
Upon her arrival in the country, officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service took her into custody and began arrangements for the commencement of her sentence.
The government spokesperson further disclosed that the Attorney-General is expected to hold bilateral discussions with counterparts at the United States Department of Justice on all pending extradition requests involving the two countries.
The development marks a significant milestone in judicial cooperation between Ghana and the United States and underscores ongoing efforts by the government to ensure that persons convicted by the courts face the full rigours of the law.
