The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has dismissed as false reports alleging that military lands have been allocated to the President’s brother Ibrahim Mahama for private development.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Mr. Genfi described the claims as “false and malicious,” urging the public to disregard them.
He clarified that the Ghana Armed Forces is instead undertaking a self-help housing project aimed at replacing aging and dilapidated colonial-era structures at Burma Camp in Accra.
According to him, the initiative has received significant private sector support, including a donation of GHC120 million from Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group Holding Limited. The funds will be used to construct 10 blocks of 16 housing units each for military personnel.
Mr. Genfi further disclosed that a fundraising luncheon to support the project was held at the Ghana Military Academy, with prominent business leaders and partners of the Armed Forces in attendance. The event was chaired by renowned businessman Sam Jonah.
He expressed gratitude to Mr. Mahama for what he described as an “extraordinary act of patriotism and generosity,” noting that the contribution would significantly improve living conditions for members of the Armed Forces.
The Deputy Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of military personnel, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts between the state and private sector in addressing infrastructure challenges within the security services.
