Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to equipping the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to uphold the nation’s Constitution and safeguard its sovereignty.
Speaking at the induction ceremony of the newly appointed Service Chiefs, Dr. Boamah expressed confidence in the leadership’s competence, patriotism, and integrity.
“I am confident in the competence, patriotism, and integrity of the leadership that is taking the helm of our armed forces,” he stated.
The Defence Minister began by congratulating the newly appointed chiefs, describing their promotions as both a personal achievement and a call to greater national duty.
The appointees include: Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen Frempong, Chief of Air Staff and Air Vice Marshal Joshua Mensah-Larkai, Chief of Staff.
Dr. Boamah emphasized that the induction marks the official start of a noble and demanding command responsibility, especially amid a challenging security environment.
He said “Our region and the global security landscape face a myriad of challenges-from violent extremism and cyber threats to transnational crime and disasters. It is a world that has become more volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous”.
Highlighting the unity among the Service Chiefs, the Minister praised their joint induction as a testament to their strong bond.
“With such unity, your front will be impenetrable,” he added.
Dr. Boamah assured that the armed forces would be provided with the necessary tools, infrastructure, and policy direction to fulfill their constitutional mandate effectively.
He also conveyed President John Dramani Mahama’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices made daily by Ghana’s gallant officers and soldiers both at home and abroad.
“We encourage you to maintain teamwork, discipline, and adherence to the highest standards of professionalism,” the Minister said.
Dr. Boamah expressed confidence that under the new leadership, the Ghana Armed Forces would continue to uphold the values of honor, duty, and professionalism.
He called on all to join in prayer for divine guidance and protection for the armed forces, their leadership, and the nation.
“Let us join in prayer seeking God and allice guidance and protection for our armed forces, our leadership and our great nation may God bless our chief of defense staff service commanders and all personnel of the Ghana armed forces as they serve with distinction and honor”, he concluded.
