Deputy Minister of Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi has publicly refuted a recent publication by The Fourth Estate concerning the asset declarations of political appointees under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on April 29, 2025, Mr. Genfi asserted that he duly filed his asset declaration with the Auditor-General’s Department on March 28, 2025, at 4:00 PM, and possesses an official receipt as evidence.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I filed my assets declaration with the Auditor General on 28th March 2025 at 4pm and I have the official receipt to that effect,” he stated.

Mr. Genfi expressed concern that the publication has adversely affected his reputation, stating that it has “lowered my image in the minds of right-thinking persons.” He urged The Fourth Estate to rectify the alleged misinformation within 24 hours, warning that failure to do so would compel him to seek legal counsel.
The Fourth Estate has not yet issued a response to Mr. Genfi’s claims.
Asset declaration by public officials is mandated by Article 286(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires certain public officeholders to submit written declarations of all property or assets owned and liabilities owed. This measure aims to promote transparency and accountability within public service.
The situation underscores the importance of accurate reporting and the need for media outlets to verify information before publication.
