The Ghana Armed Forces have successfully completed a smooth leadership transition at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra, reaffirming their commitment to professionalism and order.
At a formal ceremony on Wednesday, Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong officially took over as the new Commandant, replacing Major General Richard Addo Gyane. The event was supervised by Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, on behalf of the Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
Mr. Genfi praised both the outgoing and incoming Commandants, calling the transition a strong example of the Ghana Armed Forces’ respect for proper leadership change and democratic values.
Major General Gyane was applauded for his dedication and work in strengthening KAIPTC’s role as a leading centre for peacekeeping training and research in Africa. His successor, Air Commodore Akrong, is expected to continue building on this foundation with his experience in military operations and strategy.
The event was attended by senior military officers, diplomats, KAIPTC staff, and guests, all witnessing the symbolic handover of command—a tradition that reflects the military’s discipline and commitment to smooth leadership transitions.
Named after the late UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the KAIPTC plays a key role in promoting peace and security across Africa, with continued support from the Ghanaian government and global partners.
