The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) has provided office space to the Data Protection Commission (DPC) to enable it to establish a regional office and strengthen data privacy enforcement in the region.
The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, approved the request during a meeting with the DPC Executive Director, Dr Arnold Kavaarpuo, and his delegation on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The visit was to introduce the new DPC leadership to the Regional Minister and deepen collaboration between the Commission and the NRCC.
Dr Kavaarpuo said the Commission’s presence in the region was increasingly important as public institutions, businesses and other organisations collect, process, store and share growing volumes of personal information.
He said a regional office would bring the Commission’s services closer to institutions and the public while improving education, monitoring and compliance with data protection requirements.
Mr Ali Adolf welcomed the initiative, saying stronger data protection was essential as government agencies increasingly adopted digital systems to manage citizens’ information.
He said the presence of the DPC would help improve awareness and compliance among public institutions and other organisations across the region.
The Minister, together with the NRCC Chief Director, Sumaila Ewuntomah Abudu, supported the Commission’s request and facilitated the provision of office accommodation for its regional operations.

The office is expected to serve as a base for public education, stakeholder engagement, compliance support and monitoring of data protection practices across the Northern Region.
Mr Abudu reaffirmed the NRCC’s commitment to working with the Commission to ensure the regional office becomes fully operational.
Dr Kavaarpuo expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister and the NRCC for the support, describing the provision of office space as a significant demonstration of institutional commitment.
He pledged the DPC’s cooperation with the NRCC and other stakeholders to strengthen data protection awareness and compliance across the region.
The engagement highlighted the need for closer collaboration among state institutions to promote good governance, digital responsibility and the protection of citizens’ personal information.
