The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District that resulted in the death of a footballer with Berekum Chelsea FC.
The deceased, identified as Dominic Frimpong, was killed during the attack on Sunday, April 12, 2026, which targeted a bus carrying members of the Ghana Premier League club.

In a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, a joint operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, and the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Police Commands led to the arrest of the suspects.

The suspects, Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” believed to be the gang leader, and Bawa Gideon, were apprehended on April 15, 2026, at Atimatim in Kumasi during an intelligence-led operation. Police say the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire but were subsequently overpowered and arrested.
Items retrieved from the suspects include a pistol loaded with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, a locally manufactured weapon (“blantine”), pepper spray, desert boots, multiple mobile phones, and a black pullover.

During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed reportedly admitted involvement in several robbery incidents, including attacks at Nkawie, Fufuso, and the Berekum Chelsea team. He also named accomplices identified as Dauda, Huefe, and A.T., who are currently on the run.
Ahmed is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with investigations.
The police have declared the three other suspects wanted and are appealing to the public for information that could lead to their arrest.
Authorities commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and also expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation.
Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, and those arrested will be arraigned before court to face justice.
