Vincent Ekow Assafour, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo and plaintiff in the case concerning the potential removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkunoo, has indicated his intention to pursue a review of the Supreme Court’s recent decision.
The apex court dismissed his application to initiate proceedings related to the Chief Justice’s removal.
Speaking on Channel One TV monitored by Kumasimail, Assafour revealed that he is currently awaiting the full written reasons behind the Supreme Court’s ruling, which are expected to be released on May 21.
He emphasized that the final decision on whether to seek a review will depend heavily on the court’s detailed justification.
“Obviously, that was not the conclusion I expected, but of course, the Supreme Court has spoken,” Assafour stated.
He added “The Supreme Court says that on the 21st of May, the reasoning behind their ruling will be made available to us. When it is finally made available, I will examine whether the reasoning holds water. If it does, I will leave the matter to rest. If it doesn’t, then in my opinion, I am likely to file for a review.”
Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, together with Justices Yonny Kulendi and Amadu Tanko, formed the majority that dismissed the injunction request. However, Justices Henrietta Mensah Bonsu and Ernest Gaewu dissented, expressing opposition to the majority ruling.
Assafour asserted that despite the dismissal of his application, there was some judicial support within the Supreme Court.
“Even before we get hold of the reasoning, it is clear that two of the Supreme Court judges agreed with my position and ruled in favor of my argument,” he emphasized.
