Twinkle Star Preparatory School has emerged as the winner of the maiden Inter-Municipal Independence Day Quiz Competition in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.
The event, held at the Calvary Methodist Cathedral in Wenchi, showcased the intellectual prowess of young minds from participating schools within the municipality.
The quiz competition featured eight selected basic schools: M/A 2A, M/A “C”, Methodist “C”, and St. Clement, also known as SVD Basic School.
The remaining schools were ASWAQ “C”, SDA “A”, Twinkle Star Preparatory School, and Western Link Educational Complex.
Speaking to the media after the event, the Wenchi Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mrs. Mary Nyarko Adu-Twum, commended the organizers for making it a success.

She announced that at the end of the competition, Twinkle Star Preparatory School, representing Wenchi West, emerged as champions with 18 points, narrowly defeating M/A “2A” from Wenchi East, which secured second place with 16 points.
St. Clement, also representing Wenchi West, claimed third place with 15 points, followed by SDA “A” from Wenchi East in fourth position with 13 points.
Western Link Educational Complex from Wenchi West failed to participate.

Mrs. Adu-Twum lauded the Wenchi Municipal Assembly’s decision to replace a traditional march-past with the quiz competition, stating that this year’s 68th Independence Day celebration would help students gain more knowledge and prepare for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Cost Reduction & Theme for the Celebration
Mr. Gyimah Yakubu, the Wenchi Municipal Coordinating Director, explained that the Assembly decided to mark the 68th Independence Day celebration with a quiz competition following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to scale down celebrations nationwide.

He noted that this decision helped the Assembly control expenditures and achieve significant cost savings. “Last year’s Independence Day celebration cost the Wenchi Municipal Assembly GH¢70,000.00, but this year’s event cost less than GH¢8,000.00,” he revealed.
The 68th Independence Day celebration was held under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset.”
Emphasizing the theme, Mr. Gyimah Yakubu stated, “The time has come for us to rid our society of paradoxes, moral ambiguities, and impossible choices.”

Participating schools received several prizes and certificates for their efforts in the quiz competition.
The event was graced by dignitaries such as the Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, Rev. Father Canon Agyemang; the Secretary of the Local Council of Churches, Rev.
